Remembering Rob DeBlois
The UCAP School, Founder and Director
On Friday, January 31, 2020, we lost our Founder and former Director, Rob DeBlois.
Rob founded The UCAP School 30 years ago because he believed that we needed to stop looking at children who are at risk as “other people’s children” and embrace them as our own.
Even after Rob retired last June, UCAP students and alumni would often stop in to tell us how much he had changed their lives. That their lives are better because of Rob and The UCAP School.
As we mourn the loss of this great visionary and leader, we are even more aware of the importance of continuing his life’s work. The UCAP School is honored to carry out his mission for our students and for the community.

We have been so blessed to see Rob’s work for UCAP as well as the academic world in general.
What an inspiration to us all were Rob and Bonnie.
He led an exemplary life.
Such an amazing man. He impacted so many lives, always encouraging, loving, viewing every kid of Rhode Island as a great achiever. I had the privilege to know Rob and we shared so many beautiful moments. He was my mentor for many years. During my last trip home I was able to see him. We spoke briefly but that is a day I will forever cherish. The fact that I was able to make you proud means the world to me.
A most extraordinary man.
In very fond memory of Rob and all the magnificent work he did at UCAP and elsewhere. He was an inspiration to us all.
God bless his family. He was a nice guy. He gave me a chance.
Blessed to have been part of his life and UCAP.
A great man, mentor and visionary. Had so many great memories of Rob. He will be sadly missed.
Blessed to have met this amazing Principal. May he rest peacefully.
A great man and mentor. Sleep well brother.
Rob was an amazing person. I worked with him when he started the SPIRIT summer program in the mid 80s. It eventually grew into UCAP. He touched and changed so many lives. He and Bonnie touched mine very deeply.
A man who never gave up on his students. I went to UCAP when it first started.
I never met Rob but I know he made a huge difference on my son Jeff.
Without Rob and the school I would not be the person I am today.
Rob and the whole UCAP school made me the man I am today. My advisor for life!!! The only time I looked forward to going to school.
What an inspiration. He had such a positive impact on so many. A great loss for the UCAP Community and Beyond.
You were a great advisor (heart, heart, heart).
He was an amazing person.
He made such a difference in so many people’s lives and will be remembered by many.
Was blessed to attend UCAP and know him.
Thank you for all that you’ve done!
You will be missed Rob.
An Angel in disguise.
I enjoyed being one of his students.
He will be missed by so many of us whose lives he touched and changed forever.
Rob was my advisor and UCAP was the first school I attended where the teachers really cared about the students! Rob you helped change so many lives and gave meaning to your life!
Rob was a truly great man who truly cared about everybody. From the first time I met him when we went to the state house to the first time to get this UCAP program off the ground and being a graduate of his first school year he changed so many people’s lives by helping them out and getting them all back on the right track, including myself.
Thank you for all you did for me and many others.
He had such an impact on so many of us.
I remember his jokes at morning meetings and when he sang an Elvis song. I would not be the person I am today if it weren’t for Rob or UCAP. He will be dearly missed.
Rob, thank you for giving me the opportunity to be a better me.
Rob was definitely loved and he will be missed.
He was a game-changer for at risk educational innovation in the country.
Damn, Rob was the man. UCAP is super lit.
He raised an amazing family.
Thank you Rob for everything.
Rob had such a huge impact on my life. He helped me become the woman I am today. From dealing with emotional days to days where I wanted to drop out to helping my family during the holidays and even helping me get glasses because mine broke. Rob, you are loved and you will be missed.
