OUR
MISSION
|

|
UCAP
seeks
to
intervene
in
the
lives
of
adolescents
at
risk
of
dropping
out.
We
strive
to
create
a
supportive
community
that
motivates
students
with
a
coherent,
relevant
and
challenging
academic
program
that
will
help
them
attain
the
academic
and
social
skills
necessary
for
success
in
high
school
and
in
life.
We
stress
the
importance
of
achieving
at
high
levels
by
taking
responsibility,
setting
goals,
working
hard,
taking
risks,
and
having
fun.

Accelerating
America

now
on
Amazon.com

"Accelerating
America,"
the
award-winning
documentary
about
UCAP,
is
now
available
on-line
to
watch
or
download
(for
a
small
fee).
Currently,
the
film
is
on
Amazon
and
it
will
be
available
from
other
sites
as
well.
The
filmmaker,
Timothy
Hotchner,
followed
three
students
over
the
course
of a
full
school
year.
He
quickly
gained
the
kids
trust,
and
then
access
even
into
their
homes.
His
amazing
footage
captures
the
challenges
these
kids
face
as
they
struggle
to
focus
on
taking
advantage
of
UCAP's
program
to
help
them
make
up a
grade.
Please
spread
the
word
to
anyone
you
know
who
is
interested
in
urban
education,
alternative
education,
models
that
work,
inspiring
people,
or
just
great
documentaries!
Keep
in
mind
that
Rob
is
happy
to
talk
to
your
group
or
class
about
the
school
and
our
hopes
for
replication
so
that
new
schools
can
expand
our
reach
and
serve
more
kids.
"Accelerating
America"
is a
compelling
film
about
a
school
that
poses
a
solution
to
the
problem
of
kids
dropping
out
- a
serious
and
persistent
problem
that
has
the
attention
of
President
Obama
and
Secretary
of
Education
Arne
Duncan.
YOU MUST SEE THIS FILM IF YOU, TOO,
CARE ABOUT THIS ISSUE.
